The Angry Budgie Live: Five Finger Deathpunch, 26th November, Manchester Academy 1

So for the first time in a while The Angry Budgie went to a gig, and at the back end of last month off we went to see Five Finger Deathpunch at the Manchester Academy 1. This gig had already been upgraded from the smaller Academy2, either way, after seeing them at Download 2009, we were sure it would be a great show!

Ill admit I first got into 5FDP after seeing the video for The Bleeding on Scuzz, instantly I became a fan. It had all the ingredients of a classic metal song, with some ten ton riffage! The gig itself was amazing, 5FDP really are such a great band live, and in their front man a real talisman. Ivan Moody whipping the crowd into a frenzy and pulling off some storming vocals.

Their new album, War Is The Answer, had just been released before the UK tour and there were already a few favorites. The opening four tracks of the album make for an awesome opening to any album. So far my favourite tunes of that album are Bulletproof and Hard to See. Both performed on the night. The band themselves played/rocked hard. They also showed some real class, towards the end of the gig and crowd surfer went over the barrier and had a pretty nasty fall. Mid-song Ivan stopped the set to make sure he was ok, then, with some genuine drum sticks and ensuring he was ok, the band got right back at it!

So an absolutely stonking gig, and a band I would defiantly recommend you go and see!

When I get round to doing so I will have a gig review from a recent 'A' gig The Angry Budgie went to. I've been a fan of A for many a year, and A even supported Feeder at the first ever gig I went to! They were back (minus Daniel P Carter) and rocking hard as ever!

Gig Review - The Offspring - Manchester Academy 26th August

So last night The Angry Budgie went to The Offspring gig at the Manchester Academy, The Offspring are defiantly my favourite and any chance to see them live I will take. The venue was the refurbished Academy 1, very nice it is too! Except last night im sure it was a thousand degree's in there!

One thing your always assured with The Offspring, is they will put on a good live show, we had previously seen The Offspring touring Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace when they headlined Download 2008. This was the band touring the album in Manchester for the first time. Already there are some songs on R&F R&G which are Offspring classics. Hammerhead springs to mind!

The boys put on a great set, including all the obvious hits, Smash, Self Esteem, Kids Aren't Alright and All I Want. Thankfully 'Noodle's' has cut his hair, the long hair just didn't suit him at his age! Highlights of the set were defiantly The Kids Aren't Alright and Can't Get My Head (Around You)! Though a special mention has to go out for a beautiful rendition of Gone Away by Dexter on the piano!

Money well spent in my eye's for a great show!

A few more gig's lined up for The Angry Budgie include: Five Finger Death Punch, DragonForce and 'A'!

Gig Review - Airbourne, Manchester Academy 08th November

Ok so as promised last week here is my first gig review for this Blog.

Date: Saturday 8th November
Venue: Manchester Academy One
Band: Airbourne

Had been looking forward to this gig for a while, Airbourne are a bunch of Aussies in a rather AC/DC mould. The gig was a near sellout and thankfully most of the crowd seemed to be of a similar age, if not a little older, to my girlfriend and I! This was good for a couple of reasons, we were not surrounded by young kids trying to be wild, as they were no doubt let out away from their parents for a night! We did not seem to be standing in the pathway for everyone in the gig, as we usually are for some reason!
Anyway we missed the band coming on stage due to parking issues, but we walked in while they were rocking through the first song. All in all it was a fantastic gig, great rock songs, great rock ‘n’ roll set, the best tunes being, Too Much Too Young Too Fast and Diamond in the Rough.
It was a simple set, no pretentious props just lots of amps and a hell of a lot of smoke! Im sure the band hand a drummer, I could hear one! Just couldn’t see the lad!

Anyway a quality nights entertainment, if you get the chance to see em please do!

P.s sorry for the poor quality pictures, the smoke machine guy was getting very excited!
